You're asking what is a ceramic coating? They give you better gloss and shine. In return gives your paint a richening effect. Reds will be deeper; blacks will be blacker. 

 

A protective glass coating has 3 purposes. Self-cleaning properties, ease of maintenance, protect from airborne elements sticking to the finish, and provide long-term gloss and good looks.
